What is a Squamous Suture?

Hey Yeall! It has been a while, but I think I'll just get right into it and tell you what I have been up to!
SO, in school I am working on a medical degree and this was the lab we had to do. I was learning the various name of the parts of the human body! Right now I am studying the human skeleton, and in this study I got to learn the names of all the individual bones and points of interest on the human skull! Speaking of human skulls, these that you see here are all pictures of the only REAL human skull my class had access to. All the others were just casts made from plastic. My table lucked out and got the real thing!

So, my favorite thing I learned about the human skull so far has been the Lambdoid suture. This is where the occipital bone and the two parietal bones meet on the back of your head! You can see it labeled in red in the pic on the left. I like this one mostly because of the name. Lambdoid... how weird! haha
Another interesting thing I learned was that in the medical profession you don't call things by their real name. You have to use weird words and names for things that are usually in different languages, like Latin, or Greek. For instance , the Ear Hole is really called your External Acoustic Fossa. Just a fancy way of saying outside sound hole... Weird I know. But I suppose once you learn the fancy code words for all these things you wont be misunderstood.
So far in my class I have had to dissect a fetal pig, and work on reveling the muscles that lye beneath the skin on a real human cadaver. Kinda freaky to work on an actual human, but I got over it.

For those of you looking for more pics of the stuff I'm working on, I'll be happy to show you, however It will be limited because A lot of this stuff I'm not allowed to take pictures of for respect for the dead. So I'll share what I can! ok, come back soon for more fun pics!

  1. Awesome! Having worked in a hospital for 16 years (mostly in the ER and OR), I have seen some stuff and it is utterly fascinating!

  7. You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think
I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me.
I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
