It is gone... gone from my life forever.

Hey guys, sorry for not posting in a while. I have been super busy with finals week and in the summer it is all compounded. So I'm back at it!

I would like to cry. As it turns out somebody decided to remove my precious bee hive. Sure it could have been a danger to all the children playing around it . Sure It might have been a nuisance to all the surrounding houses. BUT come on, did they really have to remove the bee hive?

Now all that remains is a gaping hole where the hive used to be. If you take a look at the picture on the left you can see they cut a hole into the bush where the bee hive was. Now its just a wound, a black hole of depression sucking you in . 

Then as I got a closer picture of the hole in the bush I saw they actually cut the branch the hive was based on. As I was taking the picture I saw a few bees still buzzing about, looking for their missing home. It was so sad.  Now, I do have hopes that this bee hive was relocated, transplanted to a new home, where it could live without proving to be a danger to the children in the residential area, but I don't have faith that it happened that way. What probably happened was the gardeners were told to get rid of it and they just ripped it out and threw it away.

BUT, that was all too depressing, so Ill move onto something that is more fun to think about. My sister would appreciate this little change I have noticed. For my whole life the neighborhood I grew up in had lamps placed throughout the complexes. They always looked like the one directly below. A big bulb of plastic that sits on top a metal pole with a light on top. Kinda a funny sight, but it did the job. 

The lamps are slowly but surly being replaced with these new fangled clear glass light covers. It is a blown glass I would guess, and kinda looks like a fancy vase, but if it does the job that is all I care about.

Bee Hive Update People!

 So the landscaper guys around my house decided it was time to trim all the bushes and things. This is great news, because not only will the place look better, but it opened up a clear view to the bee hive I have been talking about in posts of the past!
Good thing those landscapers wear full body gear when doing their work . haha!

 I decided to brave getting within 3 feet of the hive itself to get this picture. You can clearly see the bee hive structure. As well as the honey comb shape those bees are so good at making! We all know how precious our world is and how much of a role Bees play in keeping all the fancy plants in it alive. So let us hope this hive does not die!

 I then got just a tad closer for a better shot of the whole thing It is pretty darn big. Probably weighs like 15 LBS or more I would guess if it is not hollow.But it is crazy how  I wanted to make my own bee hive and then this springs up. Just keep praying that the home owners don't decide to kill it.

 I have not heard of any talk or even mention of this bee hive outside my own family, so maybe its just in a really good out of the way spot . Lets hope it stays that way and the Home owners association does not act dumb and opt to have it removed.

Then to make your day even better, another picture of ducks! These were at the marina near my house. So funny watching them swim!

Because i can not have beez

For All of you who remember I Wanted to get my own bee hive this will be of interest to you! I'm walking around just picking my nose with my dog on his leash. When I come across a wonderful site! A swarm of bees is hovering around where my dog usually does his uhh... business... As my dog performs his task I'm standing there wondering why there are so many bees in the bush, and I get to thinking. This bush does not really flower much, and it should not be attracting this many bees.

 I then come to the conclusion that this is in fact a BEE HIVE! Click on all the pictures with the bushes to get a better view of the bees flying around. They did not seem to care that I was right next to their home. it was rather exciting. However, for this kind of purpose I realize I will need to get my hands on a much better camera.

These pictures are a head on view of where the actual hive is in the bush. If you look at the pictures in full view you can actually see a few bees near the center of the pic.

One thing about where this hive is located is that it is near the back section of this group of houses I live in, I'm pretty sure no kids play around back here, and it's generally out of the way for people walking around. Thus it's a great spot for the bees to have picked to live. Good job guys!

This is so cool for me. I wanted my own bee hive, but this will probably do. Mostly I wanted it for the pollen exchange and to watch them, not so much the care for the bees, thought that would have been fun too.

Energy without the jitters!

I know you all want to know how my studies and plans are progressing with my bee hive ideas. It saddens me to say this. but I probably will not be getting a bee hive. Just too high risk and too much to worry about at my sisters house. HAHA, even though she would love to have 15 K bees swarming around he 15 month old kid, I think I'll have to just wait till I get my own place to have a bee hive.


NOW, with that said, I will no be giving up 100% on the idea, because it does interest me a great deal. However I will have to move on to other topics to discuss here, since I will not be able to give first hand accounts of how "my " bee hive is doing.



I Am sure you are all fully aware of all the fancy energy drinks out there. From Amp, to RedBull to Monster and RockStar and (my favorite) 5 Hour Energy.

For all those folk out there who  LOVE these drinks, you should know that they could make current heart conditions worse, and even cause heart attack.                        http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,487088,00.html                                          

Sure, it's fox news, but even if its a Repub conspiracy some how, what are they trying to get you to think? Red bull is evil? LOL. Well anyway, the story in the link above basically says the Red Bull the kid drank might have been the cause of her heart attack. HOWEVER, caffeine alone will probably not cause you to have heart problems.

In this case the girl has preexisting conditions that were awakened by the "several" caffinated beverages she had consumed that night.

Moarl of the story? EVERTHING IN MODERATION!  The scariest part of this story is there are more stories out there of 21 year olds (and younger) who have genetic heart problems they DON'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT, and they can be triggered by huge amounts of caffeine , or even just one full can depending.

Is this reason enough to be scared out of not drinking energy drinks anymore if you have a family history of heart disease? I hope not. but what If you still want to get all the benefits without worrying about turning up dead on a hospital gurney with some EMT pumping your chest to no avail, then I might have an answer for you?

Do what I do, Eat Brewers Yeast and have a single cup of coffee!

That's right folks! There is an alternative to those silly energy drinks that may or may not have things your allergic to  or an excessive amount of caffeine. 

You can read the nutritional facts. Basically a bunch of B vitamins and stuff.

 Brewers yeast has been around for quite some time.  My mother grew up in the sixties and was eating this stuff. I must say, it is very hard to find palatable ways of consuming this, however, whenever I do I feel great!

 The fastest way I have found to eat this is to mix it in with juice. I only had orange juice today, but it still works. my favorite is purple grape juice (not purple drink)

Pour yourself a glass(about 1 1/2- 2 cups)

 Then Mix in one spoon full of the brewers yeast. Mix well until you see no more chunks.

And as you can see the orange juice is a noticeable shade or two      <--darker. Once mixed, drink and enjoy.

THEN , the finish off the "energy Drink" make yourself a cup of coffee, use as much or as little at you like. the coffee is up to you and how much you like. I usually go for a 1 1/2 cup. That kick starts my morning, then the vast amount of B Vitamins in the brewers yeast Keeps me going all day long.

have you ever seen the "5 Hour Energy " commercial? Well the whole "hours of energy now and no dead feeling later" is what this does too. but better then 5 Hour Energy. mostly because You can control the caffeine to B vitamin ratio.

Should I really start my own hive?

I am seriously considering starting my own bee hive. My biggest problem is going to be the city zoning and ordinances i suppose.

This process looks really quite simple to do. all you do is prepare your hive. set up your box. spray the bees with sugar water to make them drunk and fat so they are more docile. Then break open the box put them in, then tack the queen bee to the inside of the hive.
I have seen many videos where the people used all premade materials and basically set it all up from a kit. This guy  seems to have just made his hive from a bunch of wood and planks. I have not actually made a hive myself, but I think for the first time I would go with the kit. Seems like it would be much easier.



This is a video of some guys who used a "kit" to set up their hive. They are not as knowledgeable on the topic of bees. but they do a good job from what I can tell.



So should I start a bee hive in my sister and brother in laws back yard? I think they would like it.

Beez and how they hive

Of all the strange things I have been considering, bee keeping is probably the most fun that I have considered. Bee keeping is an interesting topic. There are multiple uses for owning your own bees, other then just home grown honey. Bee Keeping is very relaxing as well. It's a great hobby for spending those hours you have all alone. Also, you might be able to make a small profit off your bees even if you have a single hive because bee wax is used in candles, soap and many other products.

 This book in particular I found to be interesting even though I only had enough time to flip through it. But the book has great illustrations and pictures. The pictures are high quality on glossy paper, which is very nice. I have read many bee keeping books that were all hand drawn or with poor or fuzzy pictures. As far as pictures go they are not the TOP selling point of a book. But when you only have a small amount of time to flip through the book it really helps. Words can only describe things so far. Even If you are a master word smith, and have much experience in writing you may still lose people from the length of your paragraph. Where as a picture can get a point across in just a glimpse and maybe a small caption.

 This will probably be my next purchase for this line of study. I do not know that I will have the time or especially that space to have a hive of my own. However It is a fun topic of discussion to bring up with friends.

 I'm just sad that I probably will not be able to wear my favorite flavor chapstick when I'm tending my hives (that I plan on getting some time when I purchase my own house)
